We want to help solve the world’s biggest challenges through deep tech

We believe scientists make great entrepreneurs

Science Creates is a Bristol-based deep tech ecosystem, supported and backed by successful entrepreneurs that help scientists and engineers accelerate their ideas and build disruptive businesses from scientific discoveries.

In partnership with the University of Bristol, Science Creates aims to establish Bristol as a global centre for deep tech by combining specialist incubator facilities, a network of strategic partners and a dedicated venture capital fund.

Incubators

Designed for Deep Tech

In partnership with the University of Bristol and Research England, our two central Bristol incubators, located at St Philips and Old Market, offer 45,000 sq. ft of laboratory, office and event space for deep tech start-ups.

We designed our incubator spaces for scientists and engineers using input from our own experiences working in laboratories. Our specialist in-house team designed, developed and run the spaces and coordinate our network to provide mentoring, expertise and the resources needed for deep tech innovation and business development. Our incubators take no equity.

SCVC

Deep Tech Investment

We invest at the early-stage in pre-seed / seed rounds and can support though to series A. We focus of advanced technologies from biotech to quantum tech, partnering with companies aligned with our mission of improving the health of people and the planet. We’re a team of deep tech nerds and serial entrepreneurs that backs like-minded founders wanting to change the world.

Network

The Members, People & Partners

The Science Creates Network is made up of our member deep tech companies and our partnerships with local academic institutions, entrepreneurs, investors and strategic service providers. As sector specialists, we know that deep tech businesses need specific, relevant advice and experience to thrive.

Bristol: Home to Deep Tech

“Science Creates brings a new component to the Bristol cluster: Science. No longer do science start-ups have to look elsewhere.

“The deep science IP of the universities and their graduates can take root here in Bristol. And as the activities grow they will combine with existing strengths in technology and arts and enable new areas of innovation and entrepreneurship.”

David May, Professor of Computer Science, University of Bristol

CytoSeek

Cell Therapies

CytoSeek’s mission is to use Artificial Membrane-Binding Protein technology to deliver the potential of the next generation of cell therapies, with a focus on treating solid tumours. The company was founded in November 2017 by Professor Adam Perriman, Dr Tom Green, and Dr Ben Carter, having developed the technology at the University of Bristol. CytoSeek is now engaged in proof of principle studies for multiple product candidates and is seeking to enhance cell therapies against solid tumours.

Imophoron

Next-generation Vaccine Platform

The Imophoron team is developing a novel vaccine platform for use on emerging infectious diseases. The platform is based on a single component of the human Adenovirus that spontaneously forms a superparticle, the ADDomer. The team are currently developing universal vaccine candidates for Chikungunya, Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Covid-19.

Folium Science

Food Biome Engineering

Folium Science researches and develops biome modulators for the agriculture and food sector. Their unique CRISPR technology harnesses bacteria’s natural defence to bio-actively maintain bacterial populations which can support animal nutrition, plant health and soil condition. This organic, non-GMO, non-antibiotic solution has the potential to transform the way we manage the food chain.

Carbometrics

Glucose Binding Molecules

Carbometrics is a specialist chemistry company that designs, synthesises and derives highly selective and robust carbohydrate-binding molecules. One subset of these molecules – a family of Glucose Binding Molecules (GBMs) – exhibits unprecedented selectivity for glucose. It is unaffected by pH and is highly chemically and thermally stable. Their approach to designing GBMs is completely novel and distinct from those used in existing glucose sensing technologies that are based on boronic acids, proteins or enzymes.

Anaphite

Harnessing Graphene to Power the Future

The Anaphite team are developing a way to incorporate graphene into batteries that is inexpensive, scalable and can fit into existing cell production lines. Its mission is to help power the sustainable energy revolution and develop the next generation of supercapacitors, batteries and materials.

QLM

Quantum-inspired Gas Sensors

QLM are developing a quantum-inspired laser radar, capable of detecting minute methane leaks and designed to be mounted on a drone for conducting aerial surveys. Aware of the urgent need to understand the extent of greenhouse gas emissions, the team has developed Lidar system that detects both the shape and the concentration of plumes of methane. By better understanding where their emissions are coming from, this could help organisations worldwide to achieve Net Zero.
