It is developing the next-generation of miniaturized and implantable nanobiosensors for correct and continuous monitoring of glucose and other biomarkers to the market. The company’s spin-off entity Lifecare Chemistry Ltd was founded to enhance research collaboration and secure ownership of its improved analyte-specific chemical receptor developments.
GenomeKey is transforming how healthcare clinicians diagnose and treat infections like sepsis to improve patient outcomes. Using cutting-edge machine learning and DNA sequencing, the company is developing a next-generation diagnostic device to identify bacterial genomes and determine their antimicrobial susceptibility directly from patient blood in just a few hours, rather than days. This enables clinicians to prescribe the right antibiotics for patients with much more efficiency and accuracy, reducing costs, minimising unnecessary antibiotic use and ultimately saving millions of lives from the world’s leading cause of death.
Epinal is revolutionising the detection and prevention of narcotic-impaired behaviour for safer roads, flights and workplaces. Utilising AI and novel biotechnology that mimics natural sensory mechanisms, it’s developing a handheld breathalyser that generates rapid results with extreme sensitivity and selectivity.
Head of Incubators
Ashley has been part Science Creates since 2016, playing a key role in the design and operational planning of all its incubators. Over the years, he has held several leadership positions, including serving as CEO of Science Creates’ property and operating companies from 2022 to 2024, where he remains a Director.
Currently, Ashley leads the Property team, managing the organisation’s incubators while actively planning future incubator projects. He holds a PhD in organic electronics and supramolecular chemistry and has 15 years of experience managing laboratory environments.
Head of Developments
Patrick is a founding team member of Science Creates and an award-winning ARB registered architect with 10 years of experience. He delivers projects that balance high-quality design, user experience, cost and sustainability, working at all stages of the project lifecycle, from business case, planning, and architectural design to marketing and facilities management.
Facilities Lead
Germinal has over 20 years of experience working in science, working as a researcher in synthetic chemistry, chemical safety advisor, lab manager and research technical manager. With broad expertise in good laboratory practice and health & safety, he oversees the operation and maintenance of buildings and their services as the Facilities Lead at Science Creates.
His interest outside of work revolves around music, movies and nature.
Facilities Manager
Stevan is the Maintenance Manager overseeing the smooth running of the maintenance department at both St Phillips and Old Market incubators. He worked as a maintenance manager in healthcare for 12 years and brings a broad range of experience with him.
Outside of work he enjoys walking, running, cycling, trying lots of different sports and recently started to learn stand up paddleboarding.
Laboratory and Sustainability Manager
Holly is committed to ensuring our incubators are run smoothly with a specific focus on helping our members with laboratory inquiries. As part of the facilities team, they also dedicate their time to building maintenance and reducing our environmental impact.
Holly has a Masters degree in Conservation and Biodiversity with a specific interest in ethology and ornithology.
IT Lead
Dedicated to ensuring all IT infrastructure and networking runs smoothly, James is motivated to ensure that all things IT across the Science Creates incubators remain secure and operational.
With a professional background in cloud computing, encryption and digital security practices, James is also a keen music producer with an avid interest in horticulture.
Front of House and Events Manager
Katie comes from a front of house and hospitality background, in the UK and Spain, where she lived for 9 years. Within Science Creates, you’ll mainly find her running events or at the Old Market reception, welcoming and assisting members and visitors.
In her spare time, she likes to explore near and far with her partner and two young children, renovate their home and relax through yoga and cooking as she has a love for, and interest in, good food.
Maintenance Operative
Nathan is our point of contact for any maintenance or facilities related operations at our Old Market Incubator. Nathan has a NVQ/Diploma level 1, 2 & 3 in Carpentry, as well as bringing multiple trade experiences from past employment. His commitment is to ensure that the incubators stay looking tip-top and operational for the Science Creates community.
In his spare time, Nathan is into his sports and outdoor activities like walking, running and cycling.
Facilities Assistant
Gareth is the maintenance assistant located at the St Philips incubator, taking charge of keeping the building and grounds operational, presentable and safe. He boasts a varied work history — from building maintenance and car restoration to the erection of large stage structures and sound engineering at events.
In his spare time, Gareth loves making music, mountain biking, woodwork projects and collecting minerals while exploring.
Receptionist - Old Market
With a background in the fashion industry and passion for customer service, you’ll find El ready to welcome you at Science Creates Old Market’s reception with a warm smile.
Beyond the walls of Science Creates, she can be found at an art gallery captivated by the timeless works of Rothko and Caravaggio, strolling through nature or enjoying a quiet moment with her two cats.
Receptionist - Old Market
Gini is based at the reception of our Old Market incubator, where she welcomes visitors, answers enquiries, and helps things run smoothly day to day. Born and raised in Hong Kong, where she gained a background in education and teaching, Gini has a strong passion for supporting others and is always happy to lend a hand around the incubator.
Outside of work, she enjoys swimming and all things water-related, creating nail art designs for friends, and hunting down the best food spots around the city.
Receptionist - St Philips
Rosie is the first point of contact for visitors and callers alike at our St Philips incubator — always ready with a smile and helpful information. Having joined Science Creates following her degree in Biochemistry at the University of Bristol, Rosie is passionate about ensuring our front desk is as dynamic and welcoming as the science happening within the labs.
Outside of work, Rosie enjoys cold water swimming and bouldering with a keen interest in marine life and scuba diving.
IT Technician
Scott specialises in Apple device management, playing a key role in maintaining the technological infrastructure that supports the company’s incubators and ensuring that all Apple devices within Science Creates are seamlessly integrated, secure and fully operational. His attention to detail and commitment to streamlined device performance ensures a smooth experience for all teams.
Outside of his technical expertise, Scott is an avid ‘Magic: The Gathering’ player and enjoys immersing himself in the world of electronic music.
